I miss Deven

Building Ojos keeps me late at the office and hence I don't see Deven on most weekdays except when he is asleep. I try and spend all weekend with him. Nonetheless as a parent I feel guilty.

Last night I went to bed at 2am. Four hours later, Deven woke up at 6am. I was exhausted. I put him down in his play area and went back to bed. 5 minutes later he came into my bedroom dragging his wire / ball toy (you know the one twisted tracks and balls you move up and down). The toy is as tall as him and it took all of his strength. He came to my side of the bed and looked at me. He can't talk yet but he pointed to the toy and made a few grunts. My son just wanted me to play with him.


I got up and we played for about two hours. He sat in my lap as we played with the wire/toy. Every few minutes he would turn around look at me and put his head on my chest and smile. We brushed our teeth together (he is just facinated by it). We changed his diaper (not my favorite part). It was a good morning. I was dragging all day at work, but ... no complaints.

I realized a while ago that the most important relationships for me were with Vijay and him. There are days when all of my dreams of Ojos collide with all of my desires to spend time with Deven. I named this blog after him and tied it to my company as a statement of the two passions in my life. Sometimes however they are in conflict.

i can really relate to where you're at... my son Dante just turned 4 months old, and with the time i'm spending getting SimplyHired.com off the ground, i usually only get a little bit of time with him on weekday mornings.

still, he's a treasure, and just a few smiles from him are worth so much.

hope your startup efforts are going well, and drop by our office sometime if you'd like to say hello. dion, anil, and gautam are also around. we have an open house lunch on fridays, so you're welcome to come by and have some good food with us.
